HECHO A MANO

830 Canyon Road I 505-916-1341 I hechoamano.org

A familiar name to the New Mexico art scene, though perhaps less often as an artist, is in the spotlight for Hecho a Mano’s fall show. Suzanne Sbarge, founder and executive director of 516 ARTS, a non-collecting contemporary art museum in Albuquerque, is a standout artist in her own right. Her fantastical mixedmedia works have been exhibited in more 80 group exhibitions and 15 solo shows since the late 1980s. In her artist statement she says, “I depict hybrid characters and creatures, exploring the place of animals in the human imagination during this time of rapid environmental change. . . . Through my art process, I connect with the reality that we are not just interconnected with animals, we are animals.” She presents a slate of new works (Nov. 4 to Nov. 27). Regalos, a juried small-works exhibition, follows (Dec. 2 to Jan. 1).
