EASING THROUGH TRANSITIONS

The American Cancer Society provides information on different transitions in your cancer journey, including when treatment ends. Visit cancer.org or call 1-800-2272345. When you need additional support, turn to your social worker or check out local support group options on page 44.

Our goal for our patients is to get them back to living a full life outside of our care. I like to stress the importance of short-term goals for our radiation patients. For some that means spending time with grandchildren. For others, it may be organizing a trip of a lifetime. After treatment, we often follow patients for the next few years. We go over their imaging scans as well as bloodwork. I think by showing the scans directly to patients, this gives them confidence and understanding of their current situation.
