STANLEY CRAWFORD

Stanley Crawford has lived since 1969 in the Embudo Valley of Northern New Mexico, where he divides his time between writing and farming. He has published four nonfiction books about Northern New Mexico, including Mayordomo and A Garlic Testament. His most recent nonfiction work is The Garlic Papers. He has also published several novels, including the modern classic Log of the S.S. the Mrs. Unguentine, Village, and Some Instructions to My Wife Concerning the Upkeep of the House and Marriage, and to My Son and Daughter Concerning the Conduct of Their Childhood. Crawford has received two National Endowment for the Arts Fellowships, a Lila Wallace–Reader’s Digest Writers’ Award, and residencies from the MacDowell Colony, Centrum, and the Rockefeller Foundation. He has taught at the University of New Mexico, the Institute of American Indian Arts, and UMass Amherst and is a visiting professor at the Hulbert Center for Southwest Studies at Colorado College.
