Screening Long Haulers with filmmaker
Amy Reid at No Name Cinema
— Brian Sandford
One of the main characters in the 2020 documentary Long Haulers, Tracy, uttered a line that resonates with filmmaker Amy Reid: “All truckers are either running away or running to something.” Reid followed three female long-haul truckers for two weeks each, sharing their sleeping bunks and meals, and shadowing them during visits to truck stops, distribution centers, and factories. The women were fleeing domestic violence, the stigmas of being formerly imprisoned, and mental health issues, Reid says. “Everything you’ve ever owned has been transported on a truck and has been carried by some woman or man for your consumption,” Reid says via email. “I didn’t fully realize till after I traveled around the U.S. with these women how integral trucking is to our economy and world.” The film, which Reid shot, edited, and raised money to create, shows Friday, March 24, at No Name Cinema. Reid will attend and take questions from the audience following the screening. She also will attend a screening and Q&A at 1 p.m. Sunday, March 26, at Guild Cinema in Albuquerque, followed by two more in Denver. 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 24, No Name Cinema, 2013 Piñon St., $5-$15 suggested donation, nonamecinema.org
