It’s all relative

Last March, actor and former Santa Fe resident Cameron Scott Roberts won the Grand Jury Award for Best Performance for his role in the feature film Relative at the Gasparilla International Film Festival in Tampa, Florida. Less than a year later, he and director Michael Glover Smith will attend a showing of the film at Jean Cocteau Cinema, then field audience questions. The film’s plot focuses on a family’s reunion for a college graduation party in Chicago and the unexpected ways their bonds are both tested and bolstered. The comedy/ drama, released in June, also has won awards at the Festival of Cinema NYC and Buffalo International, Full Bloom, and Midwest Film festivals. A review of the film at rogerebert.com states of Smith’s work: “His intimate, actor-driven dramas are set not merely in the real world, but in specific locales, with dialogue testifying to the fact that both the characters and the place have histories that still weigh on them in the present.” 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, Jean Cocteau Cinema, 418 Montezuma Ave., $15 or $30, 505-466-5528, jeancocteaucinema.com — B.S.
