Small wonders: Miniatures for sale

People seeing Mount Rushmore in South Dakota or the Mona Lisa at the Louvre Museum in Paris sometimes leave thinking, “Well, that wasn’t as large as I’d expected.” That won’t be a problem at the 21st annual Miniatures Show & Sale at the Millicent Rogers Museum in El Prado, which plays up the miniature status of its wares and is stocked with small paintings, drawings, ceramics, santos, jewelry, sculptures, and photography. Sales from the exhibition, which features work from more than 200 Northern New Mexico artists, benefit the museum and artists. A preview party is from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3, at the museum, 1504 Millicent Rogers Road. Best-in-show awards will be announced during the preview party, and visitors may vote for best-in-division awards through Sunday, Feb. 5, when museum admission will be free to all. There are three categories: two-dimensional artworks, three-dimensional artworks, and jewelry. Sale runs Saturday, Feb. 4, through March 5, at the museum, as well as millicentrogers.org — Brian Sandford
