Seven Contemplations at Container

Swoon — aka Brooklyn-based artist Caledonia Curry — is credited as the first woman to gain widespread recognition in the field of street art. She began building that reputation in 1999, while attending the Pratt Institute of Art, when she’d paste her paper portraits on the sides of buildings in New York City. Seven Contemplations is an installation of seven of her works that are aimed at creating a meditative journey for viewers. It’s being shown through March 15 at Container, a 5,000-square-foot shipping container art space run by the owners of Turner Carroll Gallery. The large sculptures are made of wood, paper, fabric, and found objects, and they touch on themes such as love, loss, suffering, grief, and forgiveness. The tallest is 18 feet. Seven Contemplations features components from a 2020 show at the Buffalo AKG Art Museum in New York. Container, 1226 Flagman Way, 505-995-0012, containertc.org — Brian Sandford
