LOUIS “LOUIE” LARRAÑAGA

Louis “Louie” Larrañaga, 87, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on September 19, 2021. He was born on November 1, 1933 in Rincones Colorados, NM to Melquiades and Matianita Larrañaga. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Erlinda Larrañaga; sons Dennis and Damian Larrañaga; daughter Lou Donna Larrañaga-Gonzales (Jeremy); grandchildren Alix (Derrick), Esperanza, Dominic, Dennis Jr. (Iesha), and Chantel (Joseph) Larrañaga, Donovan and Derek Gonzales; greatgrandchildren Aaliyah and Joseph Vasquez Jr., and Eternity Larrañaga; sisters-in-law Doris and Rosina Larrañaga, Lilian Cordova, Mae Montoya, Evelyn Salazar (Leo); brothers-in-law Charlie Baca and Diego Abeyta, along with numerous nieces, nephews, family, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Melquiades and Matianita; brothers E.A., Eloy, Ambrosio, Nicanor, and Patricio Larrañaga; sisters Susie Beavers and Dora Gurule; sisters-in-law, Nora Larrañaga, Connie Abeyta, and Cecilia Baca; brothers-in-law, Avelino Gurule, Ruben Beavers, Eloy Baca, and Arthur Montoya.

Louie spent his early years working on various ranches in Central New Mexico then went on to serve in the United States Army. Later, he worked as a heavy equipment operator owning his own truck company “Larrañaga’s Trucking” and eventually retired from the City of Santa Fe.

Louie was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, and greatgrandfather. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family and friends. He was always willing to help and teach others. He was a devout Catholic and had the utmost faith in the Lord. His infectious smile, integrity, and strength will truly be missed by all.

A viewing will be held at Rivera Family Funeral Home on Monday, September 27, 2021, at 5:30 p.m., followed by a Rosary at 7 p.m. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, September 28, 2021, at St. Anne Church, followed with a reception at the Santa Fe Fraternal Order of Eagles, 833 Early St. Burial Service with military honors will take place on October 19, 2021, at 9:45 a.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.

Serving as Pallbearers will be Dennis Larrañaga Jr., Dominic Larrañaga, Donovan Gonzales, Derek Gonzales, Steve Larrañaga, and John Larrañaga.
