U.S. SOFTBALL IN GOLD MEDAL GAME

YOKOHAMA, Japan:

Amanda Chidester hit a game-ending, two-run single in the eighth inning, Monica Abbott struck out 13 and the United States beat Australia 2-1 on Sunday to clinch a berth in the Olympic softball gold medal game. Abbott (2-0) gave up three hits and walked six — two of them intentional — while throwing 126 pitches.

Golf:

Bryson DeChambeau has tested positive for COVID-19 before leaving the United States for Tokyo and will miss the Olympics. He’ll be replaced by Patrick Reed. DeChambeau, last year’s U.S. Open champion, becomes the highest-profile athlete to test positive for the virus.

Surfing, weather:

Organizers are preparing for at least three days of competition over eight day. The weather has to be right to compete on morning of event.
