Like most arts organizations, the travails of 2020 forced Currents New Media’s annual festival to rethink how to connect with its audience. The festival went completely virtual. This year, it’s a hybrid of in-person installations and events at venues across town, as well as online experiences — but with a twist. The virtual component aims to mirror the experience of attending the in-person festival as closely as possible. An innovative hosting platform takes you into an immersive virtual world where you can access an assortment of live events, augmented reality works, video works, and more.
