Environmental Sustainability

Many types of silk moths are found in multiple habitats throughout Madagascar. In areas where silk weaving and spinning aren’t traditional, unusual strains of silkworms offer a new approach to textile production and income generation. Mamy Ratsimbazafy founded Sepali Madagascar to expand cocoon production to additional species of silkworms. This has resulted in the creation of unique textiles composed of washed, ironed and stitched cocoons.

Environmental Sustainability

For 35 years, artisans at the Madagascar cooperative textile organization Tahiana Creation have been producing a range of naturalfiber products. Tahiana’s founder, Marie Alexandrine Rasoanantenaina, began by experimenting with alternative dyes and materials, tapping into Madagascar’s abundant natural resources. This has resulted in the creation of a range of items, including wall hangings, tablecloths, placemats and baskets.
