Women have been at the center of the appliqué and patchwork textile art found in northern Gujarat, in India's westernmost state, for centuries. A talented designer, Vanita Chauhan loves sharing this art with the world. In her IFAM application, she states: “We have [been] training low-income women in the craft and have been able to help more than 1,500 across four clusters, including Baroda, Rajkot, Jamnagar and Ahmedabad. Today, we even work with some of the top designers of the country to develop products for them.”
